The Wawel Cathedral is located on Wawel Hill in Cracow.
It is the Polish national sanctuary and for many years it was used as a
coronation site of the Polish kings and queens. The first, original building
from the 11th century was destroyed, the second building from the 12th
century burnt in a fire in 1305 and the current Wawel Cathedral was built in
the 14th century.
The building represents the Gothic style and it
has been the main burial site for the monarch since the 14th
century. There are the tombs not only of the kings, but also of national heroes,
generals, bards and saints.
